Today you recieved your chemistry tests back and we took up the answers. Please see me if you are still having difficulties. Today's note was on Light as an electromagnetic wave. We also used the ray boxes and prisms to split white light into the continuous sequence of colours.

What is light? Demo with laser beam. We looked at some optical illusions.
What do you know already? (p.457) Today we spent the class working on our review sheet and questions. We practised balancing equations and naming and writing formulas for chemical compounds. Hint: if the compound has a metal in it, is is ionic! If the elements are all non-metals it is molecular!
Tomorrow is the test! Today was a research period for your chemistry project. The due date is Friday, October 19th.

We started an assignment today called Extraordinary Chemistry. You picked your topic and Ms. Stubbs gave you a skeleton equation to get you started with the chemistry behind your topic. You may choose how you would like to present your final product. It will be due on Friday, October 19th. Today we answered an open-ended question on acid rain to practice literacy. We then did a demonstration of single displacement reactions using alkali metals and water.
Handout on neutralization reactions and homework is to read pages 278-281 and answer questions #1, 4, 5, 9 &10. Today we completed a reading assignment on Acid Rain. If you were absent, there are extra copes in the basket at the side of the room.
Today we did a note on pH scale and a lab using an acid and base and different indicators.
